Search Engine Optimization or SEO means displaying our website on the first page of a Search Engine (Google, Yahoo, Bing, Yandex etc.). Therefore we can get more hits (More visitors) to our website. Because most of the users refers only first two or three pages in Search Engine results. But it is not an easy task. Because today the competition between the E-Commerce, Brokerage and Info Marketing websites are too much high.

To achieve this objective, developers and website owners can follow several methods. First of all it is better to analyze about your competitors, their SEO methods and the current position of your website. Then you can follow these methods.

01. Meta Tags [Description, Keywords, Language, Viewport, Social etc.]
These tags are placed in the Header Section in a website. "Meta Keywords" and "Meta Description" plays a major role in Search Engine Optimization. These tags helps us to boost our website in Search results.

You can add related data in the content area. It means you can add a small summary about your web page in Meta Description and type all the related keywords in "Meta Keywords". For example think you have a website about "Story Books". So you can set Meta Name & Description like this.

There is no limitation. You can put all the data you want. As we mentioned before, Meta Keywords means related keywords of your web page. In anotherway, the words that users might type in the Search Engine (Search Bar). If the users' words and your Meta Keywords matched togeather, your site will take a lead in the search results. Furthermore you can get help from "Google Keyword Planner" to success this task. Search engines show the meta description in search results mostly when the searched for phrase is contained in the description.

Language tag defines the default or natural language of the website. This tag is useful for non-english websites or multiple language websites.

A viewport is the user's visible area of a web page. Today users browse websites from various types of devices (Desktops, Tablets, Mobile Phones etc.). The width of a tablet is smaller than a Desktop. The width of a mobile phone is smaller than a Tablet. If you have set the View Port tag, then the website will automatically scale according to the user's device type.

Social meta tags help us to optimize our websites, when we share our websites in social media profiles such as; Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus etc. All the Titles, Descriptions, Images will display according to our definitions.

02. Title Tag
Title tag is placed in the head section of a web page. It describes the title of the web page. You can see the title tag at the top of the browser tab.

Furthermore it will display as the title in search results.

03. Title and Alt Tags
You can give a title to each element in your web page. These title tags represents the title of the element. When a user moves his/her mouse pointer on the top of the element, the title of that element will display as a tooltip.

Also you can set "Alt Tags" to images as well. It is an alternate text. It will display when the image doesn't load properly.

These title and alt tags will add some extra keywords to your web page (Website). Therefore it is better to add some lenghty text.

04. File Names
Give a meaningful name to your files. For example, think your website is about a Solar Power Company called ABC Solutions. Then you can name you html / php files like this.

About Page - about-abc-solutions-solar-power-srilanka-hot-water-heaters.html instead of about.html
Contact Page - contact-abc-solutions-solar-power-srilanka-hot-water-heaters.html instead of contact.html

Also give meaningful names to other files as well (Images, Videos, PDF Documents etc.). For example, Image - abc-solutions-solar-power-srilanka-hot-water-heaters-profile.jpg

PDF - abc-solutions-solar-power-srilanka-hot-water-heaters-profile.pdf

05. Make Responsive
The meaning of "Responsive Web Design" is "To access a website from using all the devices (Desktops, Laptops, Tablets, and Phones) very easily without any physical presence or viewing issues". If your website is fully responsive, it will definitely helps you to take your website to the top of the search results. If not, you will be Sorry.

06. Proper Codings
Developers must code their websites according to W3C Standards. Always try to use modern HTML5 Codes and avoide old and outdated HTML codes. Double check whether you have put closing tags to the elements. Use Markup Validation Services and validate your codes.

07. Webmaster Tools
Most of the Search Engines have Webmaster Tools. Google and Bing are the most famous examples. Webmaster Tools helps us to improve our site's performance in search engine. We can get access to free reports, tools and resources in our website via Webmaster Tools (Check indexing status and optimize visibility of your website).

We can use "Sitemap" option via Webmaster Tools to list the web pages of our site. Furthermore we can use "Submit URL" option in Webmaster Tools to add new sites to the search engine results or index and updates existing ones.

08. Create a Google Page
Google Chrome is the most popular browser in the world. You can create a google page for your business and embed the URL of your website. If a user types your company name in the search engine, your google page will appear at the right side of the page. Next tell your friends and clients to give 5 Stars and write some positive reviews. If you have clearly marked the Google Location, it will be a great benifit to you.

09. Create a Traffic
Give the site URL to your friends and clients. Tell them to access your website from time to time. There are two methods to do this.
a. Search the website using Search Bar [Indirect]
b. Search the website using URL Bar [Direct]

As a result of that, the search engine will recognize your site as an active site. Furthermore you can do some E-Mail Campaigns as well. You can do these methods without spending a single penny.

10. Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure version of Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP). It means all the communication or data transfers between the web browser and website are very secure or encrypted. Google gives the first priority for HTTPS websites rather than HTTP websites. Because HTTPS can keep everyone safe on the website.
